Prerna (The Real Inspiration)

I don't know the meaning of this word 'Prerna' till I attended this function 'Prerna- A special day with Special Children'. The meaning for Prerna is 'Inspiration' and this programme has become a real inspiration of my life.

It was 4Pm yesterday. When I was about to finish my work with little work pending, a mail which I read today morning flashed into my mind. There was a programme called Prerna planned to be held at our office at 3.30PM. I just left the work as it is and walked down the stairs to the food court. While going to the food court, I saw some of the children's playing in the lawn. They were playing with 100% enthusiasm and happiness in there mind. I was in a mood exactly opposite to those young kids. I went to the place where the function is already going on. Actor cum Director parthiban was in the stage and they called some one to come and collect Rs10,000 donated by Sneham(Social Activity Group of Infosys). A gentle man came to the stage carrying a girl in his hand and collected the cheque. I was looking at the girl who can't walk at all and her hands are so weak. I wonder whether she can grip a pen tightly. Her legs may be weak but not her mind. I came to know that she is doing her B.Sc. What a powerful mind and courage she has. Sometimes I will be cursing my companies facilites department if the lifts are not working. Without her legs she has achived this level. I will be cursing every one that there are no motivations for me in my life. I have been a fool for all these 23 years. Motivation is not you should expect from society, it should come within you. This girl teached me everything.

Then the cheques are handed over to various social service organizations and the cultural programme by Vasantham started. Most of the childrens who did the show are Physically or mentally challenged kids by some way. I say they are challenged by nature but they have the courage to challenge this world. Then the time came for the Special Guests to appear in the stage... Radio Mirchi 'Suchee' came to the stage and she presented a beautiful song 'En asai Mydihiliye....'. Some of the kids came to the stage and started to dance. It was a wonderful retreat to watch. Some of our Tamil Heroes have everything perfect but they try to act as physically handicapped in movies. But this physically Challenged people came to the stage and they have the will in their mind to dance. They are the Real Heroes. I have wasted so many 100 bugs to watch some duplicate heroes, but if I have invested those money for these real heroes.....Yes I could have brought a small change in some one's life. While this programme is going on, My fellow Infoscions started to serve puffs and Beverages to the childrens. Some of the childrens cant hold the little Appy pack in their hand and my friends helped them to drink. I literally started to cry. God has given a wonderful pair of hands not only for doing my own work, but for help others. I am very proud of my fellow Infoscions who helped those childrens in all aspects. While I was clapping and enjoying the dance by the childrens, My Heart Cried. But thats not what these children's need. They don't need my tears, but my love. There was a small war going in my mind. Am I Lived this life in a perfect way.

After some minutes, one small kid went to the rest room. The teacher(Though she was a lady) went with him upto the rest room. As I watched this, I came running towards her and I said I will take care of him. I took him inside the rest room and after his urinals, he came towards me and said two words 'Zip and Button'. I interpreted what he was telling and I put his button and locked the zip. After I did that he gave me a smile. I saw Genuine love in his face and I felt very happy and proud. Sometimes in my life I gave money to some social service organizations and I feel proud of myself that I am serving this society. But only money is not what I should give, there are two wonderful things that I have and I should give- Love and affection. Then Light Music by our own Infosys started. The children's were on the top of the world and they started to dance. As I was watching this, one kid called me and asked me to sit near him. I suppose he cant speak, but he tried to show everything in sign language. Then he started dancing and he wanted me to watch. Suddenly he hold my hands and invited me to dance. I stood up and I started to dance. I have been with Infosys for the past two years and this is the first time I was dancing inside my campus with full enthusiasm. But it didn't last for long as the program came to an end.

As the title of the program 'Prerna', it was a real inspiration for me in my life. This is such a wonderful life and God has given me everything in my life including a soft heart. But I was not using many of the God's gift completely. I am very thankful to Sneham(Infosys social service group) who organized such a wonderul programme. Today morning as soon as I entered the office, First work I did is becoming a member of Sneham. I have missed this golden oppurtunity all these days. But this is not too late. I have decided to live my life in a meaningful way. Thank you my friends for investing your golden time and your comments are the energiser for me...
